Buffalo Geological Society Member Paul Krohn has invited us to host his “Virtual Tour” articles, originally written for his personal Facebook page. Paul is from North Tonawanda, New York and uses Facebook to share his photos and insight from local places of geologic interest.

These are all pictures taken last summer at one of my favorite places- Myers Gardens in Spencer (Danby) NY. This magnificent piece of property is owned and maintained by a close friend of mine the incomparable Wayne Myers. His property is located on Michigan Hollow Rd. and is totally surrounded by beautifully forested state land. He has lived on the property since he was nine years old and has spent his adult life converting the property into a veritable wonder-land of idyllic beauty.

He is known for many things including his magnificent perennial flower beds, his fantastic stone work, his numerous buildings on the property replicating a bygone era in our history ( literally a small village of specialized structures of varying purpose), a covered bridge, and much more.

There is also an enormous ever- growing brick collection housed adjacent to his garden shed and an enclosure known as the ” Uphy House” housing the large glass sponge fossil slab him and I found back in 2002. There is also a large stone sun dial, and a wonderful coy pond/ rock garden surrounded by numerous fossils and other interesting rocks.

I highly recommend this property as a travel destination for anyone from individuals to families and/or groups. He has hundreds of visitors and does not charge admission. He is very personable and is a veritable encyclopedia of knowledge on a vast array of subjects. If you get a chance go and see this extraordinary place- you won’t regret it. Thanks.

Archived Virtual Tour articles will be posted every Sunday and Wednesday until we catch up to the most recent date.
